What is the difference between an engineer scale and an architect scale?
At the basic level, architects deal in fractions and engineers use decimals. So, the inch calibrations on architect scales are divided into or demarcated by fractions like 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, etc., while the engineers use tenths (10 scale), twentieths (20-scale), etc. Metric scales (also called International Scales) have centimeter (CM) and millimeter (MM) calibrations - not inches. Check out the Scales Explained PDF for a more detailed explanation.
